GCSE

YEAR 11: Pupils will begin the year by covering basic conversational Spanish, mastering introductions, greetings, numbers and colours. Throughout year 11, pupils will cover contexts one and two of the GCSE course. This will focus on various topics such as Myself, Family and Relationships, Social Media and New Technology and Free Time and Leisure Activities. Pupils will develop their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills throughout the year.

YEAR 12: Pupils will recap contexts one and two and study context three. Context three focuses on Subjects and Daily School Life, Jobs and the World of Work and Future Plans and Aspirations. Pupils will continue to develop the four skills; listening, reading, speaking and writing. Examinations in all four skills will take place at the end of the school year, during the summer term. Each skill will be worth 25% of the overall GCSE Spanish grade.

Pupils will be provided with various resources throughout the two-year course; pupils will have copies of GCSE textbooks to assist with reading and listening practice, each pupil will also receive grammar booklets and work booklets for each Context of Learning which will include all essential vocabulary and grammar along with listening, reading, writing and speaking tasks to consolidate each skill.

As pupils are expected to write and communicate accurately in Spanish, they will be required to learn vocabulary and grammar on a regular basis and will be tested weekly on small chunks of each sub-topic. Past papers in all skills will be available to pupils and may be used as end of term assessments.
